Neftchi Baku has concluded its campaign in the Misli Premier League with a victory in the final match of the season.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the "whites-and-blacks," who had already secured their spot in the UEFA Conference League, faced Kapaz Ganja in the final round. The match, held at the Mehdi Huseynzade Sumgait City Stadium, ended in a 1-0 victory for the Baku representative.
Freddy Vargas scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute. Despite Neftchi's Ifeanyi Mathew receiving a direct red card and being sent off in the 65th minute, the Baku side managed to maintain their lead. With this victory, Neftchi finished the season in fourth place with 59 points, while the Ganja club finished tenth with 27 points.
The Misli Premier League is the top professional football division in Azerbaijan. Neftchi Baku, as one of the country's most historic and successful football clubs, regularly competes in European tournaments, and this qualification for the UEFA Conference League marks another opportunity for the team to represent Azerbaijan on the international stage.
