Mongolia calls for united action to tackle climate change

Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh has called for stronger international cooperation to address climate change and other global environmental challenges.

Speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Khurelsukh stressed the need for countries to work together on sustainable development and environmental protection, according to the statement.

Mongolia highlights environmental agenda

He said Mongolia has been actively promoting these issues globally and has consequently hosted a number of international events.

Mongolia has made environmental protection and climate action key priorities of its international agenda, including through its “Billion Trees” initiative.

Focus on nomadic culture and desertification

Khurelsukh also pointed to growing international interest in nomadic culture, including through the designation of important historical sites as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Mongolia hosted the 17th session of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, known as COP17, in August.
