Moldova has declared an employee of the Russian Embassy persona non grata after a Russian drone crashed on its territory, President Maia Sandu said on Friday, according to Anadolu Agency.
“We condemn this latest dangerous act,” Sandu wrote on the social media platform “X”, saying the drone had violated Moldovan airspace.
Moldova’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the alleged airspace violation. A drone carrying explosives landed about 100 metres from a residential home in the village of Chistelnita.
The ministry said the incident was a serious violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and security and posed a direct threat to the safety of its citizens.
“Such actions are unacceptable and demonstrate, once again, the risks stemming from the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” the ministry said, calling on Moscow to stop actions that “endanger regional security and human lives.”
Russia has not commented on Moldova’s latest statement.
