Moldovan President Maia Sandu said on Saturday that five Russian aerial weapons, including Banderol missiles and drones, had violated the country’s airspace and exploded on its territory. She warned that Russia’s attacks on neighboring Ukraine were “dangerously reaching Moldova.”
“Moscow is putting lives at risk across Europe and must be stopped,” Sandu wrote on the social media platform “X”. Moldova’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it described as an airspace violation, saying drone fragments were found outside Causeni, near Dubovca, between Delacau and Puhaceni, and near Crocmaz. The incident near Crocmaz caused a vegetation fire and property damage.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to pose concrete threats to our country and to the security of the entire region,” the ministry said. Moscow did not immediately comment on the allegations.
On Thursday, Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador in Chisinau to deliver a protest note after three drones violated the country’s airspace in one day. The ministry said two crashed and exploded in Moldova, and that the airspace had been violated eight times over the previous seven days.
Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov accused Chisinau of ignoring Moscow’s proposals for a joint investigation into drone incidents. “We are fed up with unsubstantiated accusations,” he told the state-run news agency Tass after visiting the Foreign Ministry, adding that Russia had received no evidence that the drone was Russian.
In recent months, an increasing number of European countries have protested alleged incursions by Russian drones into their airspace. Moscow has denied the claims.
