Croatia midfielder Luka Modrić has spoken about his team’s 7-0 defeat to England ahead of their UEFA Nations League League A, Group 3 match against Spain in the fourth round.
“The problem was not the defeat itself, but the impression our team left. Of course, we are not proud of what happened. I don’t know how Spain will assess us or whether they will look down on us. But I am sure that the Croatia you saw a few days ago was not the real Croatia. We intend to change that,” Modrić told Globo.
He called the upcoming match a good opportunity for the team to show what it is capable of. Modrić said Croatia wants to prove why it has earned respect in world football.
“I want to be here precisely in difficult times. Football is not only about good days. You have to be able to overcome difficulties. I am proud to play for this country,” the midfielder added.
Croatia will face Spain on October 6. The match is scheduled to kick off at 21:45 Moscow time.
