Nikolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s high representative for the Gaza Strip, has called for authority in the enclave to be transferred as soon as possible to a specially established technocratic committee, amid new difficulties in delivering humanitarian aid.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported, citing foreign media outlets.
He said he had received a letter from Israel’s Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
The letter said coordination of the supply of goods to Gaza through the private sector had been suspended because of threats by Hamas.
Mladenov called the situation unacceptable:
“Current events show why the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza must begin its work urgently, with the support of the International Stabilization Force. Goods delivered to civilians, humanitarian aid and commercial activity must be protected from outside interference, pressure and abuse. All parties must cooperate with the Board of Peace and ensure, without delay, the implementation of the comprehensive plan supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2803.”
He added that threats against traders and interference in supply chains further increase the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
