Armenia’s National Assembly is discussing a bill to ratify a framework agreement on strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States for the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this, Armenian media reported, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.
Mirzoyan said TRIPP would simplify border crossings not only with Azerbaijan but also with Georgia and Iran. “I hope the border with Türkiye will open, and then we will consider how to make life easier for entrepreneurs and citizens,” he said.
He also commented on a question about where the rest of TRIPP’s infrastructure, apart from the railway, would run.
The foreign minister said he could not envisage a gas or oil pipeline running alongside the railway in Meghri.
According to Mirzoyan, the area between the Araz River and the rocks is very narrow, with little available space. A railway and electricity networks could run through it, as they did during the Soviet period. He said the infrastructure could be built elsewhere, and that the discussion was not limited to Syunik: “Perhaps the oil pipeline will pass through northern Armenia. The route has not been determined. That is why I cannot talk about the width of TRIPP, because there is no such thing.”
