The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a strong condemnation of resolutions adopted by the Houses of Representatives of Belgium and the Netherlands on April 16, 2026. The Azerbaijani parliament described these documents as biased, unilateral, and aimed at undermining the ongoing peace process and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. According to the Milli Majlis, these resolutions refer to the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan in a distorted manner and are built upon false claims and unfounded accusations.

"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that these views were expressed in an official statement by the Milli Majlis. The statement further noted: “These documents, which distort the history and consequences of the past conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stem from the unhealthy and racist imagination of traditional anti-Azerbaijan and Islamophobic circles. They represent a gross violation of international law and the rule of law, acting as a provocation against the peace process currently in a sensitive stage.”

The Milli Majlis emphasized that the adoption of these documents, particularly while the parliamentary speakers of Azerbaijan and Armenia were holding meetings, demonstrates that the initiators are detached from regional realities. The parliament pointed out that the Belgian resolution failed to mention the historic Washington Peace Summit or the initialing of the "Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia." Furthermore, the statement rejected the labeling of individuals convicted of war crimes as "prisoners of war," noting that the legality of their detention has been upheld by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and previously by the International Court of Justice. The Milli Majlis called on European institutions to refrain from disruptive interventions and to support the bilateral dialogue that is moving the region toward stability.
