The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan has conducted successful anti-drug operations in the cities of Lankaran and Yevlakh, resulting in the detention of several individuals involved in illicit drug trafficking.

According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the ministry, the operations were carried out by officers from the Main Department for Combating Narcotics.

Authorities identified the detainees as Anar Huseynov, Asim Safarov, and Vusal Agahasanov, all of whom have prior convictions for drug-related offenses. During the search, law enforcement officers seized 76 kilograms of marijuana laced with psychotropic substances, as well as 2,000 methadone pills. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were operating under the instructions of drug traffickers residing abroad, facilitating the smuggling and distribution of these substances within Azerbaijan.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the case, and the court has ordered pre-trial detention for all three suspects as the investigation continues.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducts such operations across the country as part of a broader national strategy to combat organized crime and drug trafficking. These efforts are critical in maintaining public safety and preventing the spread of illicit substances, which remain a significant focus for Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies in their ongoing commitment to upholding the rule of law.
