MEDIA hosts D-8 Secretary General in Baku

A bilateral meeting was held today at the Media Development Agency (MEDIA) with the Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, who is visiting Azerbaijan within the framework of the Thirteenth Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that during the meeting, Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the field of media among D-8 member states and promoting the exchange of experience between media entities and relevant sectoral institutions.

It was noted that in the modern information environment, strengthening media literacy, forming coordinated action mechanisms against misinformation and disinformation, as well as developing a professional and sustainable media environment under conditions of digital transformation, are of particular relevance in Azerbaijan and across the member states.

Sohail Mahmud, Secretary General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, highlighted the necessity of promoting mutual visits, professional exchange programs, joint media initiatives, and shared projects among D-8 member states. He noted that expanding cooperation opportunities in media content production and distribution, as well as the responsible application of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence solutions, carries special significance in the modern era.

The parties also discussed the organization of the D-8 Media Center of Excellence, its potential to serve as a platform for coordinated communication initiatives, and reviewed the prospects for joint cooperation in the field of media and information security.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Established in 1997, the group aims to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, and enhance participation in decision-making at the international level.
