The recent disinformation broadcast by CNN on June 5, alleging that Azerbaijan's territory was utilized during the conflict between Israel and Iran, constitutes a deliberate political provocation aimed at both Azerbaijan and regional security, according to the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MEDİA).
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, MEDİA issued a formal statement condemning the report. The agency noted that CNN, citing fabricated "sources," disseminated claims that Israel used Azerbaijani territory during its military operations against Iran.
"The dissemination of such blatant fake news by a globally recognized transnational media company without any factual basis is considered a gross information manipulation carried out with specific intent," the statement read. "By spreading disinformation and disregarding the values of media ethics and the fundamental principles of professional journalism, such as maintaining balance in reporting, CNN has not only tarnished its own reputation but has also acted as a propaganda tool in a hybrid war."
MEDİA emphasized that the disinformation is a political provocation designed to create confusion within the international community, damage regional stability, and incite tensions between states. The agency reiterated that it has been stated at the highest official levels on numerous occasions that Azerbaijani territory has never been used against Iran, and such biased, fabricated reports are examples of gross information manipulation.
"We demand that CNN issue a retraction and apologize to Azerbaijan for attempting to mislead public opinion by spreading information that threatens regional security and contradicts the principles of media ethics and journalistic professionalism," the statement concluded.
Azerbaijan maintains a consistent foreign policy of non-interference and regional cooperation. The country has repeatedly rejected allegations suggesting its territory could be used as a staging ground for third-party military operations, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining stable and peaceful relations with all neighboring states, including Iran.
