Mass mourning ceremonies have commenced across Iran following reports of the death of the country's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Iranian state television, reports that the official confirmation indicates Khamenei lost his life as a result of a joint military operation by the United States and Israel.

According to information released by the Tasnim news agency, the Supreme Leader was killed in his office on the morning of February 28. Meanwhile, the Fars news agency reported that four members of his family, including his daughter, were also killed during the attack. In response to the incident, mourning flags have been raised at mosques throughout the country, while thousands of Iranians have taken to the streets calling for retaliation for the assassination.

Reports indicate that on February 28, US and Israeli forces launched a series of strikes targeting various regions of Iran, including the capital, Tehran. These strikes have reportedly caused significant destruction and civilian casualties. In a retaliatory move, Iranian forces launched missile strikes against Israeli territory and US military facilities located across the Middle East.

The escalation follows a period of heightened regional tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, who assumed office in January 2025, Washington has maintained a policy of maximum pressure regarding Iran's regional influence and nuclear program. This significant development marks a critical turning point in Middle Eastern geopolitics, potentially altering the internal power structure of the Islamic Republic and the broader security landscape of the region.
