A man suspected of stealing money from pensioners under the pretext of helping them has been detained in Baku.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs told the “Operative Information Center-OMM”.
Police officers in the capital’s Yasamal district detained S. Rashidzadeh on suspicion of stealing money from citizens who had difficulty withdrawing cash from ATMs.
An investigation found that he mainly approached elderly pensioners, offering to help them withdraw money from ATMs, and then took the funds in their bank cards. Rashidzadeh is suspected of stealing a total of 2,400 manats belonging to three people using this method.
Rashidzadeh has been charged under relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and a court ordered his pretrial detention. Investigative measures are continuing.
Authorities regularly advise bank customers, particularly elderly people, not to share their bank card details or PIN codes and to seek assistance from bank employees when using ATMs. Customers should also immediately contact their bank and law enforcement agencies if they suspect unauthorized transactions.
