Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has responded to claims that squad rotation has given his team an advantage in the Champions League. The criticism suggests that the relatively low level of the French league allows Enrique to give his players more rest.
“It is normal for a club like PSG to face this kind of talk. Before I came here, I heard that PSG would never win the Champions League because the French league was not at the required level. Now that we have won, many people are complaining. This has become customary and is accepted as normal,” Enrique said, according to RMC Sport.
PSG have won the Champions League in each of the past two seasons. The Paris club are sixth in the French league table with 11 points after six rounds this season. They have also won both of their opening matches in the Champions League.
The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s premier club football competition, while domestic league schedules and squad rotation can affect how teams manage player workloads across a season.
