Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko has said in an interview with TASS that an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to visit Russia remains valid. Rudenko said the exact dates and program of the North Korean leader’s visit are being coordinated through diplomatic channels.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that intensified contacts between the two countries are based on the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty” signed in Pyongyang in June 2024.
Key areas of focus in Moscow-Pyongyang relations include:
Military and strategic alliance: The treaty signed by the two countries requires the parties to provide mutual military assistance. Military-technical cooperation and joint steps in the security sphere are also listed as priorities.
Economic and scientific-technical cooperation: The work of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation has resumed, accelerating efforts in logistics, agriculture, energy and personnel exchanges.
Geopolitical support: Kim Jong Un has emphasized that relations with Moscow have been strengthened irreversibly and expressed Pyongyang’s full support for Russia’s efforts to counter Western pressure and regional security risks.
According to diplomatic sources, the expected visit by the North Korean leader to Russia is expected to focus on expanding trade corridors between the two countries and establishing mechanisms for joint action on international platforms.
