Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola case after a Kenyan citizen died in Nairobi, Health Minister Aden Duale said.
The patient had lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for seven years and fell ill about a month ago. The patient was treated at several hospitals in the DRC before travelling to Nairobi, according to the BBC.
Duale said the patient boarded a flight on Saturday and underwent routine public screening at Nairobi’s main airport. A relative then took the patient to a hospital in the city.
Tests confirmed infection with the Ebola Bundibugyo virus. The patient died days after arriving in Nairobi.
More than 4,000 people have died from Ebola in the DRC this year, in what the report described as the disease’s second-deadliest known outbreak.
