A delegation led by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has arrived in Shanghai for a working visit at the invitation of Ying Yong, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China.

The Prosecutor General's Office informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that a bilateral meeting was held between Kamran Aliyev and his Chinese counterpart, Ying Yong, as part of the visit.

Welcoming the delegation, Ying Yong emphasized that Azerbaijan and China are strategic partners, highlighting the ongoing successful cooperation across various sectors. He expressed satisfaction with the development of inter-agency relations and recalled previous visits by Azerbaijani delegations. The host also noted that the agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters signed between the two nations would further deepen cooperation between their respective legal systems.

Kamran Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, noting that China has resolutely supported Azerbaijan's political initiatives on various international platforms for many years. He stated that bilateral relations have reached the level of a strategic partnership due to the political will and efforts of the heads of state. Aliyev pointed out that President Ilham Aliyev visited China twice last year, and the signing of the "Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China" by President Ilham Aliyev and President Xi Jinping in April 2023 serves as a clear example of this progress.

As a logical continuation of these ties, strong cooperation has been established between the prosecution authorities of both countries, facilitating a beneficial exchange of experience. Notably, a large delegation from the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China participated in the Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors held in Baku in 2024. Furthermore, a delegation from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan attended long-term training sessions in China last year.

The sides exchanged views and reached agreements on combating various forms of crime, practical cooperation issues, and the prospects for expanding legal and institutional collaboration. Discussions also covered the involvement of Azerbaijani prosecution employees in educational programs at higher education institutions in the People's Republic of China. Kamran Aliyev invited his counterpart to visit Azerbaijan to further strengthen mutual ties. The delegation's visit continues, with several more meetings scheduled.

Azerbaijan and China have maintained diplomatic relations since 1992, with ties significantly accelerating under the framework of the "Belt and Road Initiative." The strategic partnership between Baku and Beijing encompasses not only legal and judicial cooperation but also significant investments in energy, transport, and infrastructure, positioning Azerbaijan as a key transit hub between Europe and Asia.
