Cooperation between Japan and Azerbaijan in the economic sphere, particularly in the energy sector, is becoming increasingly relevant given the growing importance of securing stable energy supplies.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, this was stated by Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Tomoaki Shimada during a reception held in Tokyo to mark Azerbaijan's Independence Day.

"I noted that we intend to contribute to the further development of relations between our countries, including the expansion of our ties based on exchanges in the fields of sports and culture as the basis of friendship," Shimada said.

Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Japan have steadily expanded since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992. Japanese companies have actively participated in major energy projects in Azerbaijan, including the development of oil and gas fields, and are currently exploring opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
