Israeli forces use phosphorus munitions in southern Lebanon shelling

Israeli forces used phosphorus munitions while shelling several towns in southern Lebanon on Friday, according to Lebanon’s state news agency NNA.

Artillery fire hit the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Mayfadoun and Nabatieh al-Fawqa in the Nabatieh district. Phosphorus shells were used in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, while further attacks on Zawtar al-Sharqiyah later involved similar munitions, NNA reported.

Attacks reported in Tyre district

In the Tyre district, Israeli artillery also targeted Wadi Zibqin and areas around Haris and Haddatha.

Lebanese army specialists dismantled two unexploded Israeli aerial bombs in Majdal Selm and Al-Ghandouriyah, located in the Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts, and transported them to a safe location.

Casualties and displacement

Lebanese authorities say Israel’s offensive in Lebanon has killed at least 4,386 people, wounded 12,407 and displaced more than 1 million others since early March.

The attacks have continued despite a framework agreement reached in June. The deal calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in return for the deployment of the Lebanese army in those areas and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
