Israeli forces on Sunday demolished military sites previously used by the former government of Bashar al-Assad near Jandal Castle on Mount Hermon in southwestern Syria, Syrian state television reported.
According to Alikhbariah TV, Israeli forces also shelled an area southeast of Al-Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside.
In a separate incident, several artillery shells were fired at woodland near Bir Ajam, west of Zubaida village in central Quneitra countryside, the broadcaster said. No immediate information was available on casualties or damage.
Repeated incidents in southwestern Syria
Southwestern Syria has witnessed repeated Israeli incursions involving raids, arrests, land clearing and shelling. Damascus has condemned the actions as violations of Syria’s sovereignty and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The Syrian government has repeatedly called for Israeli forces to withdraw from its territory and urged the international community to press Israel to complete its withdrawal from southern Syria.
Israeli forces have continued to carry out incursions and airstrikes in Syria, including attacks that Damascus says have killed civilians and destroyed Syrian army military sites, vehicles, weapons and ammunition.
UN call to respect disengagement agreement
During a visit to Syria in July, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as “unacceptable” and called on Israel to comply with the 1974 disengagement agreement.
