Israeli forces arrested 16 Palestinians during raids across the occupied West Bank early Friday, including the director of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, according to official media and local sources.
In Hebron, Israeli forces arrested nine Palestinians after raiding and searching their homes, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. Those detained included mosque director Moataz Abu Sneineh and Hammam Abu Markhiya, an official responsible for the mosque’s custodians.
Local sources said five Palestinians were arrested during a raid in Qalqilya.
Two other Palestinians were arrested after Israeli forces searched several homes in Beita, south of Nablus, the sources said.
Raids were also carried out in other parts of the West Bank, but no further arrests were reported.
Israeli forces carry out near-daily arrest operations across the West Bank, including against women and children, according to the report. The raids are often accompanied by assaults on residents and damage to homes and property. The report said the operations intensified after Israel began its military campaign in Gaza.
