Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a sharp rebuke of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the latter's recent statements regarding Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the diplomat posted on his X social media account, referring to the Ukrainian leader as a "clown."
Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian people are capable of defending themselves and do not require foreign assistance. "Mr. Zelenskyy, the world is tired of confused 'clowns.' Unlike your army, which is supported from abroad and filled with mercenaries, we Iranians know how to protect ourselves and do not seek help from foreigners," the minister stated.
The Foreign Minister further accused Zelenskyy of misappropriating funds provided by United States and European taxpayers. According to Araghchi, the Ukrainian leader is utilizing Western financial aid to enrich "corrupt generals" while simultaneously calling on the U.S. to take aggressive action against Iran.
The diplomatic spat follows Volodymyr Zelenskyy's speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he addressed the internal situation in Iran and claimed that the international community had not provided sufficient support to the Iranian people. The World Economic Forum, held annually in Davos, Switzerland, serves as a global platform for political and business leaders to discuss pressing international issues, including security and economic stability.
Relations between Tehran and Kyiv have remained severely strained since the start of the conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine and its Western allies have frequently accused Iran of supplying loitering munitions and drone technology to Russia, allegations that Tehran has consistently denied, maintaining a stance of neutrality in the conflict while criticizing Western military involvement in the region.
