Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has instructed his government to utilize the capabilities of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, to facilitate the import of essential goods into Iran.

According to information from the "Operative Information Center-OMM", citing IRNA, President Pezeshkian issued this directive following a meeting with cabinet ministers and the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran.

"The President emphasized the importance of maximizing the potential of the country's northern ports, developing alternative trade corridors, and utilizing the capacities of neighboring nations—specifically Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Russia—for the procurement and import of essential goods. The national leader called for the acceleration of the implementation of relevant agreements in this sector," the report stated.

President Pezeshkian further stressed that he is prepared to personally consult with the leaders of neighboring countries and regional partners to swiftly remove any potential obstacles to the supply and transportation of goods and medical supplies should the need arise.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the current status of imports for essential commodities, medicines, and critical resources, taking into account existing limitations at certain southern border crossings. According to the report presented by the Minister of Economy, consultations with neighboring countries have already led to the activation of significant capacity at land border crossings and alternative transport routes to simplify and increase the volume of imports.

This initiative underscores the growing economic cooperation between Baku and Tehran, particularly within the framework of regional transport corridors such as the North-South International Transport Corridor. By diversifying supply chains through northern neighbors, Iran aims to mitigate the impact of logistical bottlenecks and ensure the steady flow of vital resources.
