Iran has imposed a temporary restriction on the export of steel products, effective until May 30.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Iran Trade Promotion Organization announced the suspension, which specifically targets the export of steel slabs and plates. The move is reportedly a response to the growing pressures and regional instability following recent military escalations involving the US and Israel.

The Secretary of the Iran Steel Producers Association previously stated that an emergency plan for the import of steel plates and hot-rolled sheets was under development. Industrial enterprises have been urged to manage their raw material requirements with increased caution over the next two months to mitigate the potential impact of the export ban on the domestic industrial sector.

Iran ranks among the top ten steel producers globally, making the industry a cornerstone of its non-oil economy. The sector provides critical materials for construction, automotive manufacturing, and large-scale infrastructure projects. Such export restrictions are typically utilized to stabilize the domestic market and ensure the availability of resources during periods of geopolitical volatility or economic uncertainty.
