Iran has launched strikes against strategic energy facilities in Qatar, causing damage to critical infrastructure.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Al Jazeera television channel released this information, citing an official statement from the Ministry of Defense of Qatar.
"One unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck a water reservoir belonging to the Mesaieed power plant, while another hit an energy facility in the Ras Laffan industrial city, which operates under the QatarEnergy structure," the statement said. According to the ministry, relevant authorities in Qatar are currently assessing the extent of the damage and any potential casualties resulting from the attack.
The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions. Ras Laffan is globally recognized as a primary hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, housing some of the world's largest energy processing plants. Similarly, the Mesaieed industrial area is a cornerstone of Qatar's domestic energy and industrial output. Such strikes on energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf region often lead to immediate fluctuations in global energy markets and heightened security alerts across the Middle East.
