Investigation completed into Ali Karimli and deputy’s case

The preliminary investigation into the criminal case involving Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), and his deputy, Mammad Ibrahim, has been completed.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the case materials have already been handed to the lawyers for review.

The case against Ali Karimli and his deputy was investigated by the Main Investigation Department of the State Security Service (SSS). Final charges have been brought against them under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code, concerning actions aimed at forcibly seizing power.

The investigating body is expected to submit the evidence it has collected, together with the indictment, to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes in the coming days.

The sanction under this article provides for up to 20 years in prison or, depending on the circumstances of the case, life imprisonment. (Qafqazinfo)

Under Azerbaijan’s criminal procedure, defendants and their lawyers may review the case materials before the indictment is submitted to court. The court will assess the evidence and determine the legal outcome in accordance with the applicable legislation.
