An individual wanted internationally has been extradited from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported this, citing the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office. Following an extradition request submitted by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan to the competent authorities in Kazakhstan, and subsequent negotiations regarding the necessary documentation, an agreement was reached for the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Tahir Asgarov to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to materials collected during the preliminary investigation conducted by the Main Operational and Investigative Department of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, there are well-founded suspicions that Asgarov, acting as part of a pre-arranged group, smuggled a large quantity of narcotics across the customs border of Azerbaijan without declaration. Based on the gathered evidence, a decision was made on February 25, 2026, to charge him under Articles 206.3.2, 234.4.1, and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (smuggling, illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of a large quantity of narcotics by a pre-arranged group).

Asgarov had evaded the investigation, leading to the issuance of an international arrest warrant via the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Baku. Following successful search operations, he was located and detained in Kazakhstan. The extradition procedures were finalized, and he was transported to Azerbaijan by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and handed over to the investigative authorities.
