Alongside traditional threats, the modern world is facing new challenges, including cyberthreats, while new sources of instability are emerging and a crisis of international law is being observed.
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks in an address to participants of the fifth meeting of the secretaries of the Security Councils of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States.
The head of state said that all these developments make it essential to establish a common agenda for addressing regional and global problems, develop unified positions on important issues and coordinate activities across all areas:
"The military exercises we conduct on a bilateral basis contribute to our cooperation in the defense sphere and clearly reaffirm the strategic nature of our interstate ties."
The Organization of Turkic States brings together Turkic-speaking countries to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, security, cultural and other areas. Meetings of security officials provide a platform for exchanging views on emerging threats and coordinating approaches to regional and international challenges.
