The liberation of occupied territories was the greatest dream of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and his successors have fulfilled this will, President Ilham Aliyev said during a meeting with residents in the city of Zangilan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state emphasized the significance of the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. “Today, every inch of land within the territory of Azerbaijan belongs to the Azerbaijani people. By expelling the occupiers from our lands, we have restored our territorial integrity and sovereignty,” the President noted.
Zangilan, situated in the East Zangazur economic region, was liberated in 2020 after nearly three decades of occupation. The city is currently a focal point of Azerbaijan's large-scale reconstruction efforts under the "Great Return" program. This includes the implementation of the "smart city" concept and the operation of the Zangilan International Airport, both aimed at revitalizing the region's economy and ensuring the sustainable resettlement of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.
