International Judo Federation (IJF) President Marius Vizer spoke at the opening ceremony of the World Judo Championships in Baku, praising Azerbaijan’s support for sport and the organization of international competitions.
Vizer described Azerbaijan as a country distinguished by its initiatives, energy, new technologies and sustainable development, as well as its rich sporting and cultural traditions. The IJF president thanked the Azerbaijani government for its continued support for sporting events, particularly the world championships.
He congratulated the Azerbaijan Judo Federation on its achievements in recent years and the winners of the competition. Vizer also highlighted the Olympic family’s successes and the organization of high-level events.
According to the IJF president, judo should serve as an inspiration for unity, friendship and peace in a divided world. He expressed his gratitude to the guests, fans and members of the judo and sporting communities.
The world championships, held at the National Gymnastics Arena, will conclude on October 11. On the first day of the competition, Azerbaijani judoka Ahmad Yusifov became world champion in the 60-kilogram category.
