Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, has held a meeting with world-renowned economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Hajiyev shared details of the meeting on the "X" social network.
Hajiyev noted that during the professor's visit to Baku, they engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding sustainable development, geopolitics, and geoeconomics. "We also exchanged views on the Caspian region concept, Azerbaijan's growing role as a middle power, our peace agenda, and the importance of the region's fate being determined by the countries of the region themselves," he stated.
Highlighting the significance of the professor's recent initiatives, Hajiyev added: "His 'Marco Polo – Drive of Peace' initiative, carried out with electric vehicles along the East-West route, is an inspiring example in terms of promoting dialogue, cooperation, and mutual engagement."
Jeffrey Sachs, a prominent American economist and public policy analyst, is widely recognized for his work on sustainable development and economic reform. His visit to Azerbaijan underscores the country's increasing engagement with global intellectual leaders, particularly in the context of Azerbaijan's hosting of major international events like COP29, which highlights the nation's commitment to addressing global climate challenges and promoting sustainable development strategies.
