Persistent heavy rainfall in Türkiye’s Kocaeli province has disrupted daily life and traffic, particularly in Başiskele district.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that rivers overflowed their banks, flooding numerous homes and businesses along the waterfront and in the Yeşilyurt and Seymen neighborhoods. Streets and avenues in the area were also inundated.
Large pools of water formed on the strategically important D-130 highway, significantly restricting the safe movement of vehicles.
Flooding and similar damage were also reported on several streets and avenues in the Gebze and Dilovası districts, which were affected by the heavy rain. Municipal and civil defense teams have deployed specialized equipment to the affected areas, and drainage operations are under way.
Kocaeli is a province in northwestern Türkiye, on the eastern shore of the Sea of Marmara. The D-130 highway is an important regional route connecting settlements along the Gulf of İzmit.
