Genetically identifying human remains exposed to various external conditions for many years is a complex process. However, modern methods and highly trained specialists can help overcome these challenges.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Jamila Bayramova, a chief specialist at the Genetic Research Center of the Main Military Medical Department of the State Security Service (SSS), made the remarks at an event on the identification of missing persons.
She said specialists mainly work with bone samples that have been exposed to various conditions over long periods. Time, soil composition, temperature changes and other factors cause DNA degradation, making research more difficult and requiring a specialized approach.
According to Bayramova, genetic analyses, including the use of modern DNA technologies, play an important role in such cases. Despite difficulties in obtaining reference samples, specialists continue the identification process using the resources available to them.
The chief specialist stressed that employees’ professional training, the application of modern scientific methods and an individual approach to each sample make it possible to resolve complex cases.
