Five students hospitalized after suspected food poisoning in Ganja

Several fourth-graders fell ill at a school in Ganja. Relevant agencies have launched investigations.

The Ganja City Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a suspected food poisoning case after five students from a secondary school in Ganja sought hospital treatment on Oct. 1, the Prosecutor General’s Office press service told Operative Information Center-OMM.

Samples have been collected and relevant examinations ordered to determine the cause of the suspected poisoning. Investigators have also taken other steps deemed necessary.

The students received initial medical assistance and were discharged for outpatient treatment. Their health is reported to be normal.

The poisoning incident at a secondary school in Ganja is under review.

The Information Provision and Innovative Solutions Department of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) told Operative Information Center-OMM that agency specialists have begun an investigation.

The public will be provided with further information once the investigation is complete, the agency said.

Several fourth-grade students felt unwell during classes at Secondary School No. 6 named after Jafar Jabbarli in Ganja and were referred to a medical facility.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the Ganja-Dashkasan Regional Education Department and Ganja City United Hospital provided the information.

Ganja City United Hospital, which operates under the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units, said five women were admitted to the infectious diseases department of Abbas Sahhat Hospital at around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 on suspicion of poisoning.

The patients are receiving necessary medical care, and their treatment is continuing in the relevant department. Their condition is assessed as stable.

An investigation is being conducted jointly with the relevant agencies to establish the circumstances of the incident. The students’ health is being monitored by the school and the Regional Education Department.
