Sumgayit beat Araz-Nakhchivan 2-1 in the eighth round of the Misli Premier League. The team’s head coach, Filipe Cândido, assessed the match at a post-game news conference.
The Portuguese coach said he was pleased with the win and that the players and fans deserved the result. He said the team had not started the match as planned and had been surprised by the opponents’ use of four midfielders.
“During the first 10 minutes, we were figuring out how to stop the opposition. Araz-Nakhchivan have players with individual skill. After a simple turnover, we gave the opponents a chance to score,” Cândido said.
The coach said his team began to play better after making some changes at halftime. He added that Sumgayit applied individual pressing in some phases, created several scoring chances and ultimately secured the win.
Sumgayit and Araz-Nakhchivan compete in the Misli Premier League, Azerbaijan’s top-tier football competition.
