A fight broke out between lawmakers from Armenia’s Civil Contract and Strong Armenia factions in the country’s parliament.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports, citing Armenian media.
Parliament Speaker Ruben Rubinyan interrupted remarks by Edgar Kazaryan, a member of the opposition Strong Armenia faction, who had accused him of wasting public funds. Rubinyan said Kazaryan had strayed from the agenda and did not allow him to finish speaking.
Afterward, Civil Contract lawmaker Vahe Galumyan stood up and approached to confront him. He pushed Vahing Vartanov, a Strong Armenia lawmaker, several times, after which a fight broke out.
Rubinyan called a recess, and security staff intervened. The lawmakers continued their argument in the corridor.
Parliamentary disputes can disrupt proceedings when exchanges between government and opposition members escalate. In this case, the account provided by Armenian media says the confrontation began after a lawmaker’s remarks were cut short and then moved from the chamber into the corridor.
