Fenerbahce crushed Istanbul rivals Eyupspor 8-0 on Sunday to secure the biggest victory in their Turkish Super Lig history.
According to the original report, Fenerbahce took the lead in the fifth minute after a VAR review awarded them a penalty for Costa’s foul on Vedat Muriqi. Greenwood converted from the spot.
Two minutes later, Kerem Akturkoglu found Muriqi at the far post, and the striker scored into an empty net. Muriqi added his second goal in the 21st minute after Eyupspor goalkeeper Horatiu Moldovan saved Greenwood’s effort.
Fenerbahce score five before half-time
Matteo Guendouzi made it 4-0 in the 38th minute, firing into the net from outside the box after receiving a pass from Irfan Can Kahveci.
Kahveci then scored a fifth goal in first-half stoppage time with a close-range finish following Greenwood’s pass.
Fenerbahce continued their dominance after the break. Muriqi completed his hat-trick in the 47th minute with a near-post finish before heading in his fourth goal from Irfan Can’s corner in the 55th minute.
Club records set in dominant victory
Greenwood completed the rout in the 80th minute, converting from close range after Oguz Aydin set him up inside the penalty area.
Fenerbahce became the first team from Europe’s top 10 leagues to score five goals in the first half of a match this season. Their seven goals in the opening 55 minutes also set another club league record.
The result made Fenerbahce the team with the most matches featuring seven or more goals in Super Lig history. Eyupspor were promoted to the top flight in 2024.
