Two foreign nationals have been killed and several others injured following a drone (UAV) crash in the Sohar province of Oman.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the state news agency of Oman, citing security services, reported that the UAV fell in the Al-Awahi industrial district. Additionally, authorities confirmed that a second unmanned aerial vehicle was successfully intercepted and neutralized within the Sohar province.

The incident occurs against a backdrop of severe regional instability. On February 28, US President Donald Trump and Israel initiated military operations against Iran, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. In retaliation, Iran has launched strikes against military bases belonging to the United States and its allies located across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.

Oman, which has traditionally maintained a neutral foreign policy and often serves as a diplomatic mediator in the Middle East, now finds itself impacted by the widening conflict. The Sultanate shares maritime borders with Iran through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global energy supplies. This latest escalation underscores the growing risks to regional security and international commercial hubs in the Persian Gulf zone.
