Explosion heard near Iran’s Qeshm Island in Strait of Hormuz

An explosion was heard near Qeshm Island in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, Iranian state media reported.

The official IRNA news agency said the noise appeared to have originated from the direction of the sea rather than from land. It added that no rockets or missiles had struck the island.

Local authorities had not issued a formal statement explaining the exact source or nature of the blast.
