Türkiye and the United States must leave behind barriers that should never have existed between the two allies and give their relations “new momentum,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, according to the Turkish presidency.
Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdogan said advancing cooperation in the defense industry — traditionally one of the strongest areas of the Türkiye-US partnership, both bilaterally and within NATO — was essential.
Areas for expanded cooperation
“We are ready to advance the cooperation we have established with the US in areas such as nuclear, energy including LNG, civil aviation and high technology,” Erdogan said.
He added that deepening cooperation with Washington in multiple areas, including opportunities for joint production, would serve the interests of both countries.
Erdogan said Turkish companies had reached a level that enabled them to invest in the United States. He also expressed confidence that Türkiye would soon rank among the world’s 10 largest defense exporters.
Türkiye’s role as an “island of stability”
“I hope that the strong ties and alliance between Türkiye and the United States will grow even stronger in the second century of our diplomatic relations,” he said.
The Turkish president also said Türkiye had maintained and strengthened its position as an “island of stability” despite the crises and conflicts surrounding it.
