Erdogan says Türkiye is working to support lasting peace in Lebanon

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Türkiye is continuing efforts to help establish lasting peace and stability in Lebanon during talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in New York, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

The two leaders held a closed-door meeting on Monday at the “Turkevi Center”, or Turkish House, located across from the United Nations headquarters. Their discussions focused on bilateral relations between Türkiye and Lebanon as well as regional developments.

Call for initiative to replace UNIFIL

Erdogan said an international initiative was needed to replace the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL.

He also stressed that Ankara would continue standing by the Lebanese people during difficult times and maintain the delivery of humanitarian and medical assistance to Lebanon.

Invitation to COP31 summit

During the meeting, Erdogan invited Salam to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in November.
