Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez will be sidelined for at least 40 days with a fractured jaw, journalist César Luis Merlo, who has more than 500,000 followers on X, reported.
The Argentina goalkeeper has undergone surgery and will miss matches for both his club and the national team.
Martínez was injured in Chelsea’s Premier League match against Everton on Oct. 17. The game, part of the seventh round, ended in a 2-0 victory for Chelsea.
In the second half, Martínez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite after a pass from a free kick. He received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital.
