Israel’s flag carrier “El Al” has canceled evacuation flights scheduled to bring Israelis home from Dubai after the United Arab Emirates withdrew landing permits for Israeli airlines.
The airline said on Facebook that it had been forced to cancel flights planned for Friday, October 2, following the withdrawal of approval. “El Al” did not explain the decision, and Emirati authorities had not issued an immediate clarification.
Israel’s Channel 7 reported that the cancellations followed a last-minute UAE decision to revoke permits for the flights. “El Al” said it remained ready to operate charter flights as soon as it received official approval. Flights scheduled for the following Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday remained on its timetable but were fully booked.
Flights were planned after flydubai suspension
Israeli airlines had been preparing special flights to bring stranded citizens home after “flydubai” suspended services following an incident on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
Israeli authorities said the flight’s co-pilot stabbed the captain and tried to crash the aircraft before passengers and crew restrained him. The plane made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Emirati authorities ordered an investigation into the circumstances and motives behind the incident. “Flydubai” urged the public not to speculate.
Air links disrupted in recent months
Air travel between Israel and the UAE has been disrupted in recent months by Israeli attacks on Iran. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 2020 under a US-brokered normalization agreement.
