A bloc led by Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot would win 54 seats in Israel’s 120-member Knesset, compared with 50 for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s governing bloc, if elections were held now, an Israeli Channel 12 poll published Wednesday showed.
Eisenkot’s Yashar party was projected to remain the largest party with 23 seats, while Netanyahu’s Likud was forecast to secure 20 seats. The survey indicated that 16 seats would go to parties not aligned with either bloc.
Projected seat distribution
Naftali Bennett’s Together party was projected to win 13 seats. The Democrats, led by Yair Golan, and Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu were each forecast to receive nine seats.
Within Netanyahu’s bloc, the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism was projected to take eight seats and Shas seven. The Jewish Power party, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, was forecast to win six seats, while Religious Zionism was projected to receive five.
The United Arab List was projected to win five seats. The Reservists, Amcha Yisrael and Kahol Lavan were each forecast to secure four seats.
Election threshold and coalition prospects
The poll said 38 lists had registered to contest the upcoming Knesset elections, with 13 expected to cross the electoral threshold and enter parliament.
A government in Israel requires the support of at least 61 lawmakers in the 120-seat Knesset. The election is scheduled for Oct. 27.
Netanyahu has led the current government since late December 2022. He is facing corruption charges, while the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for him over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
