As a result of comprehensive operational-search measures and customs controls carried out by officers of the State Customs Committee’s Astara Customs Department, the transit of a particularly large quantity of narcotics through Azerbaijan has been prevented.
“Operative Information Center-OMM”, citing the committee, reports that a truck carrying a consignment of “peaches” from Iran to Russia was stopped on the import inspection line at the Astara customs post and placed under customs control.
The vehicle was inspected using a stationary X-ray scanner and a customs service dog. The inspection revealed packages concealed inside the cargo.
During the inspection, 104 packages shaped like “peaches” containing 51 kilograms and 906 grams of marijuana by net weight were found hidden from customs control.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
