A drone has struck a storage tank containing a naphtha mixture at an oil refinery in Zawia, Libya, resulting in a fuel leak. The incident has raised concerns regarding the security of critical energy infrastructure in the region.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cited reports from Al Arabiya, the Zawia Oil Refinery company confirmed the strike. The company stated that its technical teams were able to contain the leak promptly. Fortunately, the incident did not result in a fire or any casualties among the refinery staff.
Following the event, the company issued a warning regarding the dangers posed by the presence of military equipment in close proximity to the refinery's facilities. The Zawia refinery is one of Libya's most significant oil processing sites, and its stability is crucial for the country's energy sector, which has frequently faced disruptions due to ongoing political instability and armed conflict in the region.
