A drone attack destroyed Um Darfa Hospital in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile state and seriously injured two medical workers, the Sudan Doctors Network said Monday. The group blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The attack targeted the hospital in Wad Al-Mahi locality on Sunday, according to the network. The facility was damaged and put out of service while the two workers were carrying out their duties.
Initial information indicated widespread damage to the hospital, the group said, warning that the incident could deprive local residents and displaced people of essential healthcare amid a worsening humanitarian and health situation.
The network called for an end to repeated attacks on medical facilities and urged the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and humanitarian and human rights organisations to help protect health facilities and medical personnel.
It warned that continued attacks on hospitals and health centres are further weakening Sudan’s health system and putting thousands of patients and wounded people at risk.
The RSF has not commented on the report.
Sudan has been at war between the army and the RSF since April 2023. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced around 13 million, according to UN and international estimates.
