A district mayor has been detained in the Turkish province of Izmir as part of a law enforcement operation.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Haber Global, reported that the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office conducted an operation targeting the Guzelbahce district municipality. During the operation, Guzelbahce District Mayor Mustafa Gunay and four other municipal employees were detained by authorities.
Mustafa Gunay has been serving as the mayor of the Guzelbahce district since 2024. Turkish law enforcement and judicial authorities regularly conduct audits and legal investigations into local government administrations across the country to ensure transparency and compliance with national administrative regulations.
