Sohail Mahmood, the Secretary-General of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), arrived in the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 17 to participate in the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the guest was welcomed by official representatives at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku. The visit highlights the strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and the D-8 organization across various economic and social sectors.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The 13th session aims to address the challenges of rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, and climate change. Azerbaijan's hosting of such high-level international events underscores the country's growing role as a hub for global diplomatic and developmental dialogue. The D-8 organization, which includes Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye, focuses on improving member states' position in the global economy and diversifying new opportunities in trade relations.
