The Chinese government may adjust its existing retaliatory measures against the United States in response to the newly imposed 10% global tariffs by Washington.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce is preparing a formal response to the trade policy shifts initiated under US President Donald Trump.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that all adjustments to its trade policy will be made with strict consideration of China's national interests. In a statement regarding the 10% global tariff imposed by the US on imports from all countries, the department noted:

"China is closely monitoring the situation and will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the relevant measures taken by the US side. We reserve the right to take all necessary measures to resolutely protect our legitimate rights and interests."

It was further noted that Beijing will decide on the expediency of adjusting its own tariff measures in 2025 as the situation evolves. "China consistently opposes unilateral tariffs in any form. We insist that the US abandon them and refrain from implementing them in the future," the statement continued.

The ministry added that equitable cooperation benefits both China and the United States, while confrontation inevitably harms both parties. This development comes amid heightened global economic tensions as US President Donald Trump moves forward with a protectionist trade agenda aimed at reducing trade deficits and encouraging domestic production.

Historically, trade relations between the world's two largest economies have been characterized by cycles of negotiations and reciprocal duties. The implementation of these new 10% tariffs marks a significant escalation in global trade policy, potentially affecting supply chains and consumer prices worldwide. International analysts suggest that China's response could involve targeted restrictions on key American exports or adjustments to export controls on critical raw materials.
